Orange is High Voltage – Except…

Anytime we open the hood of a car and see orange components our immediate thought should be the presence of a high voltage alternative propulsion system.  The auto manufacturers adopted and have used this color standard since the introduction of the electric and hybrid vehicles – well all except for General Motors for a brief period when they were using blue for “intermediate” voltage.

Well as most things go there is always an exception to any rule…  And in this case the exception is the Dodge Challenger SRT® Hellcat.  This American “muscle car” has the power train option of the supercharged 6.2L HEMI® Hellcat V8 engine.  It uses a bright orange paint scheme for the major visible engine components.  This engine has been available in the 2015, 2016, and now 2017 model years.

Even though orange is found under the hood, there is no high voltage present in this vehicle.  While that is one less hazard in this vehicle, remember that proper assessment of the vehicle prior to extrication efforts is key to a safer rescue.
